The "Tehuanas" live on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and are from the Zapotec indigeneous group.  The women are master  embroiderers and are known for their beautiful native costumes comprized of a short hand-embroidered floral huipil and a wide hand-embroidered skirt made in three panels with a machine-made flounce sewn onto the bottom of the skirt.  These costumes were influenced by the hand-embroidered shawls that came from, Manila, the Phillipines, over a hundred years ago.  This decorative wall hanging was made to be used in the home and in the festivals in this region.
