This decorative skirt/wall hanging was hand embroidered on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This type of embroidery was influenced by the shawls that came in the trade routes from Manila, the Phillipines.  Embroidered in three large panels, this piece was once used as a skirt.  When no longer used as skirts, these floral panels were used decoratively in the homes. They were also used ceremonially in their festivals.
