The unusual ceremonial mask offered here is made from fine, malleable mesh that has been shaped and painted with rosy cheeks and large blue eyes. Woven strands of colored natural fibers have been braided and sewn into the mask to create the effect of multicolored eyebrows and a multicolored beard. Decorative red cloth was used to frame the face and forms two straps in the back to secure the mask to the head of the wearer during performances and dance sequences in the festivals of Cuadrillas and Carnival in the State of Mexico. The piece is intact and shows very little sign of wear.
