The Chinanteco (indigenous group) live in the northern part of the state of Oaxaca. This ornate huipil is woven on a backstrap loom in cotton with synthetic silk brocade. The plain-weave cotton ground is in vividly colored stripes with geometric brocaded designs. The neckline decoration is embroidered over red ribbon. This was made in the early 1980's.
