The "Tehuanas" live on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and are from the Zapotec indigenous group. The women are known for their beautiful native costumes comprized of a short hand-embroidered floral huipil and a wide, floral, hand-embroidered skirt made in three panels with a machine made flounce sewn onto the bottom of the skirt. These costumes were influenced by the hand-embroidered shawls that came from Manila, the Phillipines. The decorative wall hanging is made like their skirts and is obviously embroidered by a master embroiderer. One tear visible in the picture which I can easily repair.
