Two milagros (religious medals), fixed into place on either side of the depiction of Jesus Christ, infuse this piece with a deep personal and historical significance for the family that commissioned it. This survives in the feelings that the piece evokes today. These medals most likely represent two separate pilgrimage visits to the shrine of the Virgin de Guadalupe in Mexico City on December 12th, celebrated as the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
In the lithograph, the crucified and bloodied Jesus is hanging with two cherub-decorated vases holding large bouquets of flowers at his feet. There is some wear and oxidation to the lithograph itself that is consistent with the age of the piece. The tin-frame nicho containing the print has a scalloped inner edge with charmingly naïve tinwork on its face. It is missing its original lunette and appendages, but the original float, bubbled glass is intact.
