Probably from the 1870's, this stunning lithograph of the Crucifixion of Christ is housed in a highly detailed, truly ornate punched tin frame. Christ is depicted hanging crucified and bloodied with angels and two vases holding large bouquets of flowers at his feet. Corinthian columns support a semi-circular arch containing the scene and indicates the European origin of the print.
The inner edge of the frame that surrounds the lithograph is comprised of minute and dazzling scallops that open up into an array of designs that cover the face of the oxidized tin frame. All points of the piece are still intact, with two delicate tin rosettes and a serrated, semi-circular lunette that appears to have been re-attached in the last 50 years. The original float, bubbled glass protecting the image is intact. This is a rare and important devotional nicho.
