Cotton brocade on a plain weave cotton ground handwoven on a backstrap loom in three webs joined with cotton crocheted "randas". For the most part the Amusgas (indigenous group) still wear their native costumes and the women of Xochistlahuaca, Guerrero are considered some of the best weavers in Mexico. The overall design alternates with floral, geometric and open work in the shape of rhombs. Weaving is such an important part of a woman's life in this village that when she dies she is buried in her favorite huipil with her weaving tools. This is a contemporary piece.
