The Trique indigenous group live in the western part of Oaxaca and wear a distinctive red banded huipil on a white cotton background and a navy "enredo" or wrap around skirt under the huipil. This fiesta huipil is woven on a backstrap loom on a cotton ground with wrapped brocading in large horizontal wool bands of geometric patterning and two large integrated vertical bands in red cotton down the length of the huipil both front and back. The geometric patterning is a stylized representation of stars, animals and flowers. Green ribbon surrounds the sleeves with green and orange ribbons around the neckline. Green and orange ribbons hang down the back to scare the evil spirits away. This huipil dates 30 or 40 years
